The Propaganda Artist’s Studio

The street view and the inside of the studio of Wei, Li-Chic, a soldier in Chiang Kai-Sheks army. Later he became a sculptor and teacher at the Military Academy in Taipei. During his lifetime he sculpted hundreds of statues of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek and some of his son, the sixth president of Taiwan. Recently many of these sculptures have been removed from public space a result of the re-evaluation of the first president’s legacy. The photographs show the studio in an ambiguous state between a place of creation and of storage of memory.
